Oxygen's Youth Board: Developing Leaders

Members of the Youth Board meeting with Oxygen Trustees
Oxygen's heritage is built upon the vision of young people from our community who came together over 25 years ago to establish the charity. This legacy has shaped the way we work with young people, seeking to start our engagement where the young person is at, understanding their perspective, needs and aspirations for the future. This approach has forged the shape of our interventions and enabled us to establish unique approaches to tackling issues such as Knife and violent crime through our "What's the point?" programme.
The Oxygen's Youth Board is where the young people we work with, discuss and make recommendations to our staff and Trustees about all aspects of our work. It develops leadership skills, team work and builds aspirations. It also gives young people the opportunity to take responsibility for shaping the world around them.

Our board members have surveyed the young people attending our clubs and projects to identify what they want to see happen in the future.
We run leadership training residentials to build young people's skills to enable them to work together and contribute their views. Our surveys have helped inform decision about young peoples needs with our crime and safety survey helping to shape services for victims of crime in Kingston .
