Urban Nites developed in response to the number of young people who were bored and hanging around the streets and estates during the evenings.
Working in different teams these groups of street based workers head out, often taking hot chocolate and cakes made by local people to make a connection. Over weeks and months they keep going back to the same location, building on the emerging relationships, talking about different issues and problems the young people and local community are facing. Sometimes this group develops and they look for a building to meet in, sometimes they continue to meet on the street, however no matter what the location the aim is always to build cross community links through meaningful, purposeful and positively influencing relationships with the young people who hang around Kingston’s streets. |
