Putting soul back into New Malden posted 27 06 06

Two years on from Soul in the City we are asking young Christians across New Malden and Kingston Borough to come together again in a week of action in a smaller, but no means less important event given the working title of Soul in New Malden.

The plan is that during the latter half of the October 2006 half term (25^th – 28^th) churches and their young people come along on Wed – Fri to a mornings worship and teaching, followed by an afternoon of social action projects (yet to be decided). Then on the Saturday afternoon and evening we would finish with a festival fun day where people from all over the world would come together in a day of games, workshops, cafés closing with a Christian service that celebrates cultural unity and diversity.

We are writing to ask you for suggestions for community projects that we could look to put teams of young people to do during the afternoons of that week. To give you an idea of what these could be, during Soul in the City in 2004 these included car washes, children’s clubs, sports competitions for young people, litter picks and community facility painting projects.
