Oxygen reviving life posted 22 02 06

Like many things it is obvious in hindsight, but for me it only struck me today when I was asked by a friend whether we had addressed the problem that had caused Oxygen to be launched in 2001.

At that time the churches of the Borough were facing a crisis, the reports coming their way talked of doom and gloom, of declining numbers and disinterest. These churches came together and decided to make a difference in unity. Their response was Oxygen a partnership of mission, prayer and service to the 14,000 young people in Kingston Borough who were outside of the church.

Now when we talk about young people and the church in this part of London we no longer talk in depressed tones, instead we share stories of individuals lives changed, of schemes like street pastors launched and of a growing challenge of how to involve the young people that Oxygen comes into contact to with our churches.

I see the future as one full of opportunity and challenge. Who knows what lies ahead of us and what we will need to do. All I know is that God has blessed us amazingly so far because of that initial step of faith and he hasn’t finished with us yet!

Will you let out some Oxygen?
