Oxygen in Uganda posted 09 12 05

Ever since the decision was made to base Oxygen at St Peters in Norbiton there was the inevitable effect of us forming a close relationship with the work of Christian Outreach, Ministry and Education (COME) that was also based there.

Over the course of the last few years that relationship has grown not least through the arrival in Oxygen of two MIND THE GAP workers from Uganda (Julia Olaboro 2002-3) and Grace Aciro (2005-6), with the visit of Anna Field (2004-5) to Uganda with Oasis and finally the arrival in Uganda of Oxygen’s friend and Christchurch NM attender Mercy Tete.

Now there is the opportunity for Oxygen volunteers and helpers to develop this special relationship with Uganda by taking part in a visit to Northern Uganda in a visit that is being organised by COME (UK) and CMS (Church Mission Society).

During this unique two week tour Oxygen workers will have the chance to see and experience youthwork Ugandan style as they tour and take part with the schools, sports, music and arts facilities that are being developed by COME. There will be a chance for British and Ugandan youthworkers to meet, share and learn from each others experience and influences. Finally all will come together to thank God for the common unity we have in Christ.

Then before everyone returns home there will be a chance to do something a little bit special with a choice of trips to either Gorilla Island or White Water rafting near the source of the Nile.

This is a one of trip that hopes to unite British and Ugandan youthworkers, sharing skills and visions and brining us closer together in faith and life. So if you are interested in doing something different this summer and being Oxygen’s delegate to Uganda then do get in touch!
