Adam Wedd: A top Volunteer in Surrey posted 01 10 05

Local Volunteer Adam Wedd (20) has just been chosen as one of Surrey’s top volunteers for his work with local Christian youthwork charity Oxygen in the Government Sponsored Year of the Volunteer event.

Following his nomination by Oxygen project director, Richard James, Adam, an Oxygen volunteer for the last three years and now a full time year out worker has been chosen for his model example in giving time to others whatever their background and age. From Oxygen band events and music workshops through to handing out coffee on the streets to homeless people, Adam has constantly sought to improve the life of others.

Nominating Adam, Oxygen Project Director said:

“Adam is a role model for others, he is a person who listens and loves others not seeing any differences in age or background. He undertakes all his volunteering without any desire to be noticed but purely because he has a love for people and wants to help them”

Adam said:

“I am shocked by this nomination, I just want to get to know and help people through what I do. I know that I have had a privileged life compared to so many, this compels me to want to help others who have been less fortunate”

The next stage for Adam is to attend the Surrey Regional Awards at the end of October 2005 where he will receive his award.

This award represents the second nomination that Oxygen has received this year with project director Richard James being chosen as a Local Hero in January 2005.

More information on Oxygen

Established and supported by over 25 local churches and Youth for Christ, Oxygen’s aim is to give young people in its area the opportunity to discover and follow Jesus through serving, building relationships and learning to rely on God and a staff team that includes two full time workers, a team of GAP year workers and over 60 local volunteers.

Through innovative and creative youthwork that includes band nights, urban music nights, drama, dance football, basketball, after school clubs, small groups and a Korean project, Oxygen has come to be a place where many young people have started to come to a understanding of themselves and the world around them.
